In the 1970’s they barred us from white spaces so we made our own in the houses and basements of Brixton. Big Up pioneers Pearl Alcock and Patrick Liverpool
In the 80’s they didn’t like our music so we DJ’ed in the Market Tavern
In the 90’s we founded our own spaces shaking our booty’s to Bashment at Pressure Zone and Of the Hook, and throwing our hands in the air to House Music in white promoted clubs Queer Nation and One Nation Under a Groove
In the 2000’s we got radical and created spaces that spoke to our now. Enter Caribana, The BattyMama and the playful PDA
Along the way we made noise at Pride with the People of Colour Tent and Black women carved out spaces of their own at Sistamatic, Shugs, the Candy Bar and the Lesbian Beauty Contest hosted by the incomparable Valerie Mason John AKA Queenie
Featuring words and inspiration from an intergenerational array of speakers interviewed by veteran clubkid Topher Campbell
Come experience an installation of moving image and photography, music and real talk as we celebrate the history and culture of Black Queer nightlife
We ask where are we now and where are we going?
It’s a Hard Cock Life and it’s gonna be Bootylicous!
